Chili Contest 2020 announcement tv.jpg

Judging 5:00pm

Dinner 6:00pm

Do you have the best chili?

Come put it to the test this February 29th at Bethany Lutheran Brethren Church.  We have a panel of respected judges that will taste and judge all chilis starting at 5:00.  Once they have gone through all the chilis, they will be open for everyone to try! So whether you like to make chili or just like to eat it, come out and warm up with some great chili and even better neighbors! Dinner will be served at 6:00 but come early to get a seat.

We will even have food for those who aren't so fond of chili. So bring the whole family!

Contest Rules

  1. AROMA - Chili should smell appetizing. A good aroma is a tip off to good taste

  2. CONSISTENCY - Chili should be a smooth combination of meat and gravy. Chili should not be dry, watery, grainy, lumpy, or greasy, but just good and smooth.

  3. COLOR - Chili should look good (appearance) and leave you wanting to eat it.

  4. TASTE - Chili should taste good above all else. Although individual opinions vary, a really good taste will stand out.

  5. AFTERTASTE - Chili should have a pleasant taste after swallowing. Aftertaste should not be bitter or metallic.

Each bowl of Chili will be judged on its own merit; they will not be compared with one another.  The judges will consider each of the five categories above and arrive at one whole number score for the individual bowl of chili.  That score will be on a scale from 1 to 5, 1 being the lowest, 5 being the highest.
